Jim Morrison’s Father Dies in California

Growing up I was always aware of this man. Even though it’s weird to say (since I didn’t know him personally) I never though there would be a day without him.

The following was made public on December 8th which interestingly enough is the same date of his son’s birthday.

George Morrison, a former Navy rear admiral and the father of Jim Morrison — the late frontman of The Doors — has died.

He was 89.

His daughter, Anne Chewning of Thousand Oaks, says he died after a fall in a Coronado hospital on Nov. 17.

Born in Georgia, Morrison graduated from the Naval Academy and was once the youngest admiral in the nation’s fleet. Morrison flew combat missions during the last year of World War II and again during the Korean War.

He also oversaw naval operations during the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin incident, which led to an escalation of American involvement in Vietnam.

He later commanded U.S. forces in the South Pacific from Guam in 1975.

Morrison had three children with his wife Clara, including Jim, who became a music icon in the ’60s.
