Starbucks Nixes ‘Tall’ Menu Change

Starbucks (SBUX) has relented and will bring “tall” drinks back to menu boards at its drive-through locations, the company says.

“We want to make sure there is no confusion and that our menu reflects a range of price points,” says spokeswoman Deb Trevino.

She says the revised menu boards will be at all drive-throughs on Thursday, Sept. 16th.

“We listened to feedback,” she says. The move follows a menu simplification plan that nixed “tall” drinks from drive-through menus but left the larger, more expensive drinks.

About one-third of the chain’s 1,000 U.S. stores have drive-throughs and the redesigned outdoor menu boards were changed on Aug. 31.

The new boards listed Grande (16 oz.) and Venti (20 oz.) sized beverages but no longer mentioned the smaller, cheaper cup size that’s still for sale: Tall (12 oz.).

Starbucks officials said the change was based on what customers had requested — a simplified menu board. Starbucks shrank the number of items on drive-through menus from 70 to about 25.
