The Bowl Bowl

The Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Fiesta Bowl.

Sun Bowl, Cotton Bowl Classic, Gator Bowl, Capitol One Bowl, Liberty Bowl, Chick-fil-A Bowl, Independence Bowl, Holiday Bowl, Outback Bowl, Insight Bowl and Champs Sports Bowl.

There’s also the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas, Alamo Bowl, Humanitarian Bowl, Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, Music City Bowl, GoDaddy.com Bowl, Texas Bowl, New Orleans Bowl, Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl and Hawai’i Bowl.

And don’t forget the Meineke Car Care Bowl, Armed Forces Bowl, Poinsettia Bowl, BBVA Compass Bowl, New Mexico Bowl, Military Bowl, Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl St. Petersburg, Pinstripe Bowl and TicketCity Bowl.

Did you get all that?

My alma mater, the University of Nevada, is playing in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl January 9th in San Francisco against Boston College. When I attended there we played Ball State in the Las Vegas Bowl – when it was actually called that.

I understand advertising rules the world, but stop it with the changing names! My God! With the new additions, January should be renamed College Bowl Month. I can’t tell if the game expansion is an upgrade or downgrade. Growing up, the Rose Bowl was king, but today? No idea which one is the most important. According to Wikipedia, the Rose, Orange, Sugar, Fiesta and BCS Championship games each have a payout of $18 million. (Where does that money go?) So, to me all those other games aren’t as important. But I know, tell that to the fans playing in the other bowl games….

I’m just saying do we need all those bowl games? They all blend together after awhile and that’s sad for players and fans. “Remember when we won the Kellene Bowl?” “The what?” But, the four big ones – Rose, Orange, Sugar and Fiesta – those names have staying power – not the sponsors’ names who shell out the money for advertising.

“So awesome we won the GoDaddy.com bowl!”

Think about it.
