Newseum Adds 77 Names to Journalists Memorial

The Newseum inWashingtonis adding 59 names to its Journalists Memorial to honor reporters and photographers who died while covering the news last year.

The journalism and free speech museum also is adding 18 names of journalists who died on assignment in previous years on Monday.

Ten journalists were killed last year inPakistan, making it the deadliest country for the media. It was followed byMexicoat seven deaths andIraqat six.

Krishna Bharat, founder and head of Google News, will help rededicate the memorial, along with Alexander Lebedev, a Russian businessman and co-owner of Novaya Gazeta.

The memorial honors more than 2,000 journalists dating back to 1837. The memorial gallery also features photographs and kiosks for visitors to learn about each person named on the memorial.
