Tupac Shakur, Pearl Jam, Yes to be Inducted Into Rock Hall

The late rapper Tupac Shakur and Seattle-based rockers Pearl Jam lead a class of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees that also include folkie Joan Baez and 1970s favorites Journey, Yes and Electric Light Orchestra.

The rock hall also said Tuesday it would give a special award to Nile Rodgers, whose disco-era band Chic failed again to make the cut after its 11th time nominated.

The hall’s 32nd annual induction ceremony takes place on April 7 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. HBO will show highlights at a later date, with SiriusXM doing a radio broadcast.

‘Manchester by the Sea’ Dominates Screen Actors Guild Noms

Kenneth Lonergan’s New England-set drama “Manchester by the Sea” has emerged with the most nominations from the Screen Actors Guild, including best ensemble cast, best actor for Casey Affleck and best supporting performances for Michelle Williams and Lucas Hedges.

Barry Jenkins’ coming-of-age tale ‘Moonlight’ and Denzel Washington’s “Fences” followed with three each, while Golden Globes darling “La La Land” earned only two, missing out on the ensemble award.

Sophia Bush and Common announced the nominees on Wednesday morning in West Hollywood, California.

In the past, SAG nominees have served as helpful predictors of who will land nominations in the four Oscar acting categories.

The 23rd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will be broadcast live on TNT and TBS on Jan. 29 from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. (AP)

Jimmy Kimmel to Host Academy Awards Next February

The Oscars finally have a host: Jimmy Kimmel will emcee the 89th Academy Awards.

Kimmel will be hosting the show for the first time, the Academy of Motion Pictures said Monday. In September, he hosted the Emmy Awards for the second time.

The selection of Kimmel gives ABC, home of the Oscars telecast, the choice the network had sought. The academy waited much later than usual to name a host for the Feb. 26 ceremony.

This year’s show is being produced by Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd. (AP)
