Ed Sheeran, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry to perform at MTV VMAs

Ed Sheeran, Miley Cyrus, the Weeknd and host Katy Perry will perform at the MTV Video Music Awards later this month.

MTV announced Monday that Lorde, Shawn Mendes, Fifth Harmony and Thirty Seconds to Mars will also hit the stage Aug. 27 at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

More performers will be announced at a later date.

Kendrick Lamar is the top VMA contender with eight nominations. His hit, “Humble,” will compete for video of the year with Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic,” DJ Khaled and Rihanna’s “Wild Thoughts,” the Weeknd’s “Reminder” and Alessia Cara’s “Scars to Your Beautiful.”

Sheeran is nominated for artist of the year along with Lamar, Mars, Ariana Grande, Lorde and the Weeknd. (AP)

MTV Movie Awards Get Reboot With Addition of TV Nominations

The MTV Movie Awards are getting a reboot.

Network officials have announced that after 25 years of celebrating everything from the irreverent to the excellent in movies, they will be adding television to the lineup.

The new “MTV Movie & TV Awards” will air live on Sunday, May 7, from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

The network is also turning the run-up to the live show into a full-fledged “Movie & Television Festival” with live musical acts and a red carpet.

Chris McCarthy, president of MTV, said great storytelling and characters resonate regardless of whether they are seen in a theater or on TV.

With awards ranging from Best Kiss to Best Fight, the celebrity friendly show has also served as an annual promotional vehicle for upcoming summer blockbusters. (AP)

Beyonce and Bieber Lead the Nominations for MTV EMAs

MTV has announced the contenders for this year’s EMAs, with Beyonce and Justin Bieber coming out on top with five nods each for the music awards.

Bieber is up for Best Song for “Sorry,” while Beyonce is in the Best Video category for “Foundation.” Bieber also takes on Best Pop Act, while Beyonce is up for Best Live Act.

The pair go head to head for Biggest Fans and both artists will fight it out in the male and female categories respectively, where Bieber will compete against Calvin Harris, Drake, Shawn Mendes and The Weeknd and Beyonce will face Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Adele.

Adele and Coldplay both have four nominations.

This year’s awards will take place in Rotterdam on Sunday Nov. 6. (AP)

’12 Years’ Vies With ‘Hunger Games’ at MTV Awards

Oscar winner “12 Years a Slave” will face off with blockbusters like “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” at the MTV Movie Awards.

The network announced Thursday the nominees for its 24th annual Movie Awards. The other movie of the year nominees are “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “American Hustle.”

Most of the best male and female nominees reassemble recent Oscar contenders including Matthew McConaughey, Lupita Nyong’o and Leonardo DiCaprio.

The awards’ best kiss category will have a clear favorite: Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence’s smooch in “American Hustle.”

For best shirtless performance, Jennifer Aniston from “We’re the Millers” will vie with DiCaprio in “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

MTV, VH1, CMY Play All Music on July 4

Do you remember when the “M” in “MTV” stood for “music”? MTV is going back to that for one day.

MTV, along with VH1 and CMT, will focus solely on music for Independence Day. MTV will devote certain hours to different music genres and highlight musicians like Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

VH1 will show videos and concerts by Alicia Keys, Pink and Maroon 5. VH1 will also do a live broadcast of the Philadelphia Independence Day concert with John Mayer, Jill Scott, Demi Lovato and The Roots.

CMT will focus on artists like Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and The Avett Brothers. (AP)

‘Hunger Games’ Big Winner at MTV Movie Awards

“The Hunger Games” is the big winner at the MTV Movie Awards.

It won for the best fight, on-screen transformation, and male and female performances for stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson.

The movie didn’t totally eat up the competition.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2” won golden popcorn-shaped trophies for best cast and best hero.

“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1” won for movie of the year and best kiss.

Other winners in the fan balloting included Shailene Woodley for breakthrough performance for “The Descendants” and Jennifer Aniston as best on-screen dirtbag for “Horrible Bosses.”
